Department of Crop Resource Management

I. About CRP

Department of Crop Resources Research & Development (CRD) was established on 27 February 2009 according to the decision no. 287/QD-DHCT by the Rector of Can Tho University (CTU). It is combined from two departments on Rice research (established in 1976 belonging to Crop Production Faculty and Biodiversity Conservation (established in 1998).

II. The main tasks of CRD

Department of Crop Resources Research & Development (CRD) is assigned to implement three important tasks as follows:

  • Education: Management and teaching of the ology on Rural Development for bachelor degree and teaching for post-graduate of Can Tho University,
  • Research: Co-operation and implementation of on-farm researches on plant breeding, improved practices, rice-based cropping systems and plant genetic resources conservation and utilization (gene-bank),
  • Technical transfer: Technical training for local technicians and farmers; transferring cultivation process of crops to farmers; and vocational training for local people

III. Objectives

  • To obtain high output standards of bachelor degree on Rural development for satisfying the company’s employability demand and providing resource for rural development of the Mekong Delta
  • To improve crop varieties and develop technical process for cultivation in cropping systems towards adapting climate changes
  • Strengthen knowledge and technical skills for technicians and farmers in agricultural researches and rural development
